Dhruv Tara : The Pole Star Sitting On Vishnu's Lap

Have you ever looked up at the night sky and noticed one star that never moves? That bright, steady star is called the Pole Star, or, Dhruv Tara in Hindi. But do you know the beautiful story behind this star? It’s not just a star; it’s a symbol of unshakable devotion and faith. Let’s dive into the inspiring tale of a young boy named Dhruv, who now shines forever from the lap of Lord Vishnu.

The Pain of Dhruva

Long ago, there was a king named Uttanapad. He had two wives—Suniti and Suruchi. Suniti was kind and gentle, while Suruchi was the king’s favorite. Suniti’s son was Dhruv, and Suruchi’s son was Uttama.

One day, little Dhruv climbed onto his father’s lap. But Suruchi saw this and got angry. She pulled Dhruv down and said harshly, “Only my son has the right to sit here!” Hurt and confused, Dhruv ran to his mother. Suniti lovingly told him, “Don’t worry, my son. You may not sit on your father’s lap, but you can always sit on **God’s lap—on Lord Vishnu’s lap. He is the true father of all.”

The Search for God

Inspired by his mother’s words, Dhruv, just five years old, left his palace and went into the forest to find Lord Vishnu. He asked the sages, “Where can I find Him?” The wise sages smiled and replied, “He is everywhere. If you pray with a pure heart, He will come to you.”

So Dhruv started to pray. He closed his eyes and sat still. Hours turned into days, and days into months. He didn’t eat, move, or sleep. The forest animals watched in silence. The sages were amazed by his devotion. Even the spirits of the forest stood still in respect.

When God Had to Come

Touched by Dhruv’s pure and strong devotion, Lord Vishnu finally appeared before him and asked, “What do you want, child?”

Dhruv opened his eyes and said with joy, “I want to sit on your lap!”

Vishnu smiled and picked him up, placing Dhruv on His divine lap.

Dhruv Tara - The Pole Star That Never Moves

God blessed Dhruv with a place in the sky where no one could move him. That is why Dhruv now shines as the Pole Star, also called Dhruv Tara. It stands firm in the sky, just like Dhruv’s steady devotion.

What We Learn from Dhruv Tara - The Pole Star

The story of Dhruv teaches us that true devotion, faith, and patience always reach God. Even a small child, with a pure heart, can move the divine.

So, next time you see the Pole Star, remember Dhruv—the boy who gave up everything to find God, and who now lives forever in the heart of the heavens.
